EAEVE Accreditation
According to EU legislation Directive 2005/36/EC on the recognition of professional qualifications (as amended), the first step in the recognition of higher education programmes is the national accreditation of study programmes. Additionally, to the national accreditation of study program Veterinary Medicine, FVM is participating in the European accreditation aystem of veterinary medicine study programmes led by EAEVE (European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education) based on ESEVT (European System of Evaluation of Veterinary Training) standards. The last version of the standards is SOP of 2023. These standards are based on the European higher education quality assurance standards and guidelines (ESG).
The evaluation of study programmes is a cyclical process that must be repeated regularly (the Latvian national accreditation every 5 years; EAEVE - every 7 (previously 10) years.
The FVM Veterinary Medicine study programme is nationally accredited until 2028 (within a standard 5-year accreditation cycle); EAEVE accreditation term is until November 2026 (the previous FVM EAEVE evaluation process took place in 2016 and 2019); a re-evaluation is required in 2026 and preparations are already on the way. Therefore, the next (regular) EAEVE accreditation visit to the FVM is scheduled for 21st-25th September, 2026.
